TrapServer Features

TrapServer Workstation

Functions & Features:

TrapServer provides an agile, vendor-neutral, multi-protocol alarm management tool that monitors ASCII, TL-1, TBOS, SNMP, MODBUS and proprietary protocols (such as Badger 481, MCS-11 and LarScan). TrapServer also can provide Disaster Recovery through Redundant TrapServers and supports multiple IP and gateway connections to the customers internal infrastructure.

TrapServer consolidates alarm data relating to any Data Communication Network (DACs, Routers, etc.), Central Office (fixed or soft switch, VoIP, PABX, etc.), Transmission (Microwave, Fiber, etc..) and any other intelligent devices in use at a single organization. TrapServer supports open and proprietary protocols common within the telecom environment used to gather alarm/event/fault/performance information from the monitored devices.

TrapServer Features

In an SNMP managed environment, monitors v1/v2c traps sent by SNMP devices. With a simple point and click configuration window, traps from all varieties of trap-generating SNMP devices can be mapped to the event scheme. Once a trap-generating SNMP device is configured, its traps are relayed to the NOC. No special knowledge of SNMP, other than the device OID, is required to configure this feature. Moreover, the NOC only needs A SINGLE MIB to monitor all SNMP trap-generating devices (and all ASCII devices) at the region level.

TrapServer also serves as a platform to notify (page / email) your technicians on qualifying events. For instance, the TrapServer can be configured to notify only when critical and major alarms occur. Moreover, it can be configured to page only after a user-adjustable, system-level timeout is exhausted. In this manner, the TrapServer will not issue the page if the event is acknowledged or if the fault is cleared before the timeout is exhausted. The notification interface also allows for the scheduling of technicians based upon that technicians on-call duty. By using the scheduling feature, the TrapServer can be configured to schedule on-call duty months in advance.

TrapServer is a full-featured ASCII management and SNMP management tool. It is ideal tool in a distributed and regionalized topology. Each region configures its TrapServer to monitor the local devices. Then the NOC configures its SNMP manager to monitor the TrapServers MIB. Once the region is configured, the Network Operations Center (NOC) -- with a single MIB, manages all devices at the region. This means that, once the TrapServer MIB is integrated into the NOCs SNMP manager, no further SNMP integration activity is required at the NOC. As a result, regions and devices can be added without any SNMP configuration efforts or, for that matter, any device-specific knowledge by the NOC. Features of the TrapServer

TrapServer provides a gateway into an SNMP Managed environment and manages all other devices using
SNMP and ASCII and Tl-1. The NOC then has a common interface and database for all the equipment
